In the New Testament, each local congregation selected and appointed a group of men to be their Overseers. The Scriptures contain a lengthy list of very specific qualifications and their work is described in detail. Throughout the New Testament these men are called Shepherds, Elders, and Overseers.
We are blessed to have four men qualified to serve as Elders of this congregation. Their work is difficult. Their responsibilities are great. But we know the Lord will bless them for their work and sacrifice. As a church, we honor these men and hold them in the highest esteem.
The Greek word from which 'Deacon' is derived literally means 'a servant.' These men serve the congregation in a variety of ways to ensure the needs of the congregation are being met adequately.
"Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect.... They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience." –– 1 Timothy 3:8–9
